Is modern banking and consumer lending plain and simple usury?
Filed Under Religion & Spirituality | 6 Comments
Dominicanus asked:
I mean, today’s banking system and consumer lending aren’t they descendents of the middle age’s usurers and money lenders that people would hate so much? These same usurers that would keep whole generations in state of misery for loans unpaid?
Opinions, thank
And isn’t this same usury practices a sin and condemnedin Christianity. Isn’t it in both the old and new testaments?

Should I join Consumer Credit Counseling? They will charge me $468/yr to pay my bills with my money?

It sounds great, I “only” have about $9k in credit card debt and it should be payed off in 3yrs. Right now I have very little money left after paying minimum payments each month. I will have $145.00 extra each month. However, I’ve looked into several credit reporting agencies FAQ’s and they state that this may hurt you because the CCC agency will be “negotiating” your interest rates, which means you are not paying the entire debt that you agreed to off. I have enough negative items on my credit report so I dont know if this will put my good accounts into negative if i have to close them and then CCC ageny will also note that I am under a debt mgmt program. Any advise, my only alternative would be a consolidation loan, but i doubt i would qualify?

How should I market my product to wholesale buyers without attending a trade show?

Lamont asked:
I own a start up in need of working capital to begin production for my inventory. My product recently received a huge honor by being given a prestigious award for quality. My bank said I must have a co-signor, My co-signor said I must have pre-orders or commitment to buy from wholesale accounts before he will consider signing.
How do I market my product to potential wholesale customers without attending a trade show, as there is no time or funding for that just yet. Is it enough to offer samples and write a letter?
How can I reassure my potential customers my product is the best when I haven’t had sales yet because I am so new? All I have is the award for highest quality (which comes with a money back guarantee for the end consumer).
Time is ticking - I am supposed to commit to a national advertising campaign and I must secure my loan to do this. Any suggestions would be so appriciated!
Thank you!!!
This product is not food - it’s a juvenile product - not a toy though. You would find them in Dept Stores, Baby Boutiques, etc… It is higher end (think top-notch quality) and would not be found in WalMart type stores.

Would a UK Consumer credit company be able to collect in the US or get a charging order against assets in the US for a loan contract made on the internet on a UK web site, by a US consumer living in a state with strict Usury laws, if the interest agreed upon would be illegal if it had been made by a US bank, allthough legal in the UK?

Assume that part of the loan agreement is that the contract will be governed by UK law. The UK has no usury law and much more lenient consumer credit laws.
Would a charging order be necessary and would it have to be obtained in english courts or in US courts?
Would a voluntary wage attachment agreement be legally binding for such a loan?

When the Dow Jones average falls it seems to get everyone concerned. What is the connection between the stock market and the average consumer? I know its harder to get a bank loan, right? And how are we looked upon by other countries?
